TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS: BELGIUM

  • Services offered by the consular posts:
    • D Visa applications for Single Permit (including family members);
    • D Visa applications for EU Blue Card (including family members);
    • Schengen Visa applications for other essential needs;
    • Broader services in EU / Schengen Area countries.
  • Work and residence permit applications are being processed.
  • Town halls have resumed their activities, but appointments are required.
  • Entry from NON-EU/non-greenlisted countries only allowed for:
    • Belgian nationals and residents (including their families);
    • Travelers in transit;
    • Health, cross-border, transport and seasonal agricultural staff;
    • Students;
    • Family reasons (marriage, funerals, family reunification, etc.);
    • Professionals travelling for economically reasons which cannot be postponed;
    • Salaried workers and self-employed individuals authorized by the competent Region.
  • A Public Health Passenger Locator Form must be completed 48 hours before arrival. Individuals should carry proof of completion of the form during the trip and 48 hours following their arrival in Belgium.
  • Essential travellers must carry a completed sworn statement on essential travel.
  • Travelers from a red zone must carry a negative COVID-19 PCR test from a test performed less than 72 hours before entry. The medical certificate must be in Dutch, French, German or English and must be presented on paper or in electronic form. Exempted categories:
    • Belgian residents;
    • Children under 6 years old;
    • Travelers in transit;
    • Travelers entering by car who will remain in Belgium for less than 48 hours;
    • Transport staff, cross-border workers, cross-border students.
  • 7-day home quarantine and COVID-19 test for individuals coming from a red zone. They must complete a COVID-19 PCR test on day 1 and day 7 of quarantine.
  • 10-day quarantine for travellers from South Africa, South America and the United Kingdom. These travellers must complete a COVID-19 PCR test on day 1 and day 7 of quarantine.
  • Foreign nationals who cannot leave Belgium because of force majeure and whose residence authorization is about to expire, can apply for a temporary extension of stay in Belgium for up to 90 days.
  • Authorities in Flanders and Wallonia currently process applications without supporting documents that cannot easily be obtained due to COVID-19, such as medical certificates or police clearance certificates. Applicants can submit these documents once restrictions are lifted.
