Enhanced Schengen Visa Rules Bring Exciting Opportunities for Indian Citizens

The European Union has recently implemented more advantageous Schengen visa regulations for Indian nationals, allowing them to request multiple entry visas with extended validity periods. This new visa ‘cascade’ system streamlines the visa application process for Indians residing in India, offering them increased access to visas with longer durations if they have a solid travel history and sufficient passport validity.

Under the revised visa “cascade” system, Indian travelers can now obtain long-term, multi-entry Schengen visas valid for two years after using two visas within the previous three years. Subsequently, a five-year visa may be granted if the passport meets the required validity conditions. During the validity period of these visas, holders enjoy privileges comparable to visa-free nationals.

This decision is a reflection of the deepening relations under the EU-India Common Agenda on Migration and Mobility, focusing on comprehensive collaboration in migration policy and enhancing people-to-people interactions. The Schengen visas provide the flexibility for holders to freely visit the Schengen area for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period, promoting easier travel between Europe and India.
